Questions and Answers on Transferring your Block to Your Foundation Fabric

Special thanks to Nora Creeach for all her help.

Question:

Do I transfer these lines onto my muslin, or do I just cut the shape somehow, and stitch in place as close to where I have it drawn on the paper?

Answer:

I use a regular school pencil with a sharp point and a light hand on most things to transfer. Fabric over drawing (use black marker on paper) on light box (or up to window) and trace on fabric. Entire pattern on muslin and each piece on the colored fabrics.

On the colored pieces draw outside the pattern line so it will be covered as you piece.

Question:

Would it be best to machine baste these lines?

Answer:

It is more work. Turn under the curved lines and press (don't iron as the movement of the iron can distort the line of the curve) place the iron down and lift pressing the curves

Question:

Do I cut up my paper pattern and use this to cut out my fabric?

Answer:

No keep it as your template (and maybe the starting place for another design) Trace each piece on the fabric you have picked for that shape just larger by the amount turned under.

On the muslin the drawn shapes are exact size of pattern, on the colored fabrics they are the cutting line
